It’s a whole different world in the mountains! Below are some tips to ensure you're comfortable and happy:
Proper Attire
August is a beautiful month in the Vail Valley, but you should expect temperatures to drop at night. Average highs are in the mid 70s, with lows in the mid 40s. We are getting married on a ranch, so while our tent will be heated and floored, please ensure you wear appropriate shoes as you may be walking on grass for the ceremony and cocktail hour.
Avoiding Altitude Sickness
1) Stay hydrated. Acclimatization is often accompanied by fluid loss, so you need to drink lots of water to remain properly hydrated -- even if you don't feel thirsty.
2) Be careful with tobacco and alcohol during acclimatization, which can increase dehydration.
3) Light activity during the day will encourage your body to breathe deeply, helping to counteract the symptoms of altitude sickness while getting more oxygen into your bloodstream. Get plenty of rest at night, but avoid taking a nap if you can -- respiration decreases during sleep, which can exacerbate symptoms.
4) For those experiencing altitude sickness, consider renting an oxygen tank for your room while you sleep: www.rentoxygen.com
Catching Some Rays...
Because of the thinner atmosphere, you can sunburn more easily than you would at sea level. Don't forget your sunscreen!
